Change points: a decade of data work, from a statistics to building data platforms
Abstract: Joni Oksanen is a Senior Data Engineer and Data Scientist at Siili Solutions, a Finnish technology consultancy that builds data and AI solutions for organizations. Joni graduated from the University of Helsinki with a Master of Social Sciences in statistics. He has also worked on a doctoral dissertation in social data science, using machine learning to study health discussion in Finnish social media. In this talk Joni looks back on his career as a timeline: starting from a national cancer registry and pharmaceutical research to Helsinki University Hospital (HUS) and eventually landing in data consulting. He’ll talk about what changed at each turn, and how a statistics degree has carried through all of them.
